Planning a Naramata Bench micro wedding and wondering how much time you actually need?

A thoughtfully planned six-hour wedding can include your ceremony, family photographs, couple portraits, cocktail hour, speeches, dinner, cake cutting, first dance and plenty of time to celebrate with your closest family and friends.

At N1 Estate Family Farm, our intimate outdoor wedding venue is located along Naramata Road in Penticton, BC, surrounded by cherry and apple orchards, neighbouring vineyards and panoramic Okanagan Lake views.

Our Micro Wedding Package includes six hours of private venue access, making it possible to host your ceremony, photography, cocktail hour and reception all in one location. Because guests do not need to travel between separate ceremony and reception venues, a six-hour micro wedding can feel relaxed rather than rushed.

Below is an example of how a Naramata Bench micro wedding can flow from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Sample 6-Hour Naramata Bench Micro Wedding Timeline

1:30 PM–2:00 PM — Optional Orchard First Look

2:00 PM–2:15 PM — Guest Arrival

2:15 PM–2:45 PM — Wedding Ceremony

2:45 PM–4:00 PM — Cocktail Hour, Family Photos & Couple Portraits

4:00 PM–4:15 PM — Champagne Tower & Reception Seating

4:15 PM–4:45 PM — Welcome & Speeches

4:45 PM–6:15 PM — Dinner

6:15 PM–6:45 PM — Cake Cutting & First Dance

6:45 PM–8:00 PM — Dancing & Celebration

This timeline is simply a starting point. Every wedding is different, and the schedule can be adjusted depending on your ceremony, catering style, photography priorities and the traditions you want to include.

1:30 PM–2:00 PM: Optional Orchard First Look

Although the official six-hour celebration begins at 2:00 PM, couples who want some private time together before their guests arrive can add an Orchard First Look. A first look gives you the opportunity to see each other privately before the ceremony and capture some beautiful photographs without using as much of your cocktail hour for portraits later.

Couples can also use this time for:

  • Private vows

  • Couple portraits

  • Wedding party photographs

  • A quiet moment together before the ceremony

At N1 Estate, our optional Orchard First Look provides 30 minutes of private orchard access before your guests arrive. If you prefer the traditional experience of seeing each other for the first time during the ceremony, you can simply skip the first look and take your portraits afterward.

2:00 PM–2:15 PM: Guest Arrival

Guests begin arriving approximately 15 minutes before the ceremony. With a micro wedding of 20–28 people, this is generally plenty of time for guests to arrive, find their seats and settle in before the processional begins. Light background music can play while guests enter The Garden, while the couple remains tucked away until the ceremony.

A smaller guest list is one of the reasons a Naramata Bench micro wedding can flow so smoothly. You are welcoming a small group of your closest people rather than trying to seat and organize a much larger wedding crowd.

2:15 PM–2:45 PM: Wedding Ceremony

A 30-minute ceremony provides enough time for a processional, welcome from your officiant, personalized ceremony, vows, ring exchange and first kiss without making this part of the day feel overly long.

Your processional could include:

  • Wedding party

  • Flower girl or ring bearer

  • Groom

  • Bride

Or you can keep things much simpler. One of the benefits of an intimate wedding is that you do not need to include traditions simply because they are expected. Your ceremony can be structured around what feels meaningful to you.

At N1 Estate, the ceremony takes place outdoors in The Garden, surrounded by the natural landscape of the Naramata Bench.

2:45 PM–4:00 PM: Cocktail Hour, Family Photos & Couple Portraits

Immediately after the ceremony is usually the easiest time to take family photographs. Everyone needed for those photos is already gathered in one place, allowing your photographer to complete the important family and wedding-party combinations before guests begin relaxing into cocktail hour.

Once family photographs are complete, guests can enjoy drinks, appetizers, lounge seating and lawn games while the newlyweds head off for additional portraits.

Naramata Bench Wedding Photography Around the Farm

N1 Estate's location along the Naramata Bench gives couples several distinctly Okanagan photography settings without leaving the property.

Your photographs may include:

  • The Garden

  • Cherry orchard

  • Open farm scenery

  • Neighbouring vineyards

  • Panoramic Okanagan Lake views

Keeping all of your photography on the same property is one of the reasons a six-hour wedding timeline works so well. You are not spending part of your wedding day driving to another photography location and then travelling back to the reception. Allowing approximately 75 minutes for cocktail hour and photographs also gives your photographer enough time to work without making portraits feel rushed.

4:00 PM–4:15 PM: Champagne Tower & Reception Seating

At approximately 4:00 PM, guests can begin making their way toward the reception area. This transition is also a beautiful time for a champagne tower. The couple can pour champagne together before guests take their seats, creating both a celebratory moment and a great photo opportunity. Once everyone is seated, the newlyweds can offer a short welcome and thank their family and friends for being part of the celebration. With a smaller wedding, even these transitions can feel relaxed and personal rather than highly formal.

4:15 PM–4:45 PM: Welcome & Speeches

Once everyone is seated, speeches can begin. Before dinner is a convenient time because your guests are already together and attentive, while the catering team prepares for meal service.

You may choose to hear from:

  • Parents

  • Maid of honour

  • Best man

  • Siblings

  • Close friends

  • The newlyweds

The 45-minute window provides flexibility, but your speeches certainly do not need to fill the entire time.

If you only have two or three short speeches, dinner can simply begin earlier.

How Long Should Wedding Speeches Be?

For an intimate wedding, speeches do not need to become a lengthy formal program. Choose the people who genuinely have something meaningful to share. One of the advantages of a micro wedding is that your reception can feel more like a beautiful dinner with your favourite people and less like a tightly scripted large event.

4:45 PM–6:15 PM: Dinner

Now it is time to actually sit down and enjoy your wedding dinner. Allowing approximately 75 minutes gives a smaller group plenty of time to eat, talk and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.

Depending on your wedding style, dinner might be:

  • Buffet-style

  • Family-style

  • Plated

  • Italian-inspired

  • Gourmet Pizza

  • Another catered experience that fits your celebration

At N1 Estate, couples select catering separately from trusted local catering partners, allowing you to choose a dining experience that works with your preferences and wedding style. Dinner can become one of the most memorable parts of a small wedding. With everyone gathered around a one beautiful long table, you have the opportunity to actually speak with your guests and enjoy the meal you planned.

This relaxed dinner experience fits naturally with a Naramata Bench micro wedding, where the surrounding vineyards, orchards and Okanagan landscape already create much of the atmosphere.

6:15 PM–6:45 PM: Cake Cutting & First Dance

After dinner, transition into two classic wedding moments: your cake cutting and first dance. Doing these close together keeps the evening flowing naturally.

After your first dance, you might choose to include:

  • Parent dances

  • Wedding party dance

  • Opening the dance floor to everyone

Or you can skip formal dances entirely. A micro wedding does not need to follow every traditional wedding expectation. If dancing is not important to you, this portion of the evening could instead be used for sunset portraits, dessert, cocktails, lawn games or simply spending more time with your guests.

6:45 PM–8:00 PM: Dancing & Celebration

The final part of the evening can be intentionally less structured. After several hours of scheduled moments, it is nice to leave some time where nothing specific needs to happen. Guests can dance, enjoy another drink, play lawn games, relax in the lounge area or simply spend time together.

Your photographer can continue capturing candid moments while you enjoy the final portion of your wedding. Depending on your wedding date and sunset time, this can also be a beautiful opportunity to step away briefly for golden-hour portraits overlooking the Okanagan landscape.

As the celebration approaches its scheduled end time, final drinks can be served and the evening can conclude with a farewell or send-off.

Is Six Hours Enough for a Naramata Bench Micro Wedding?

Yes. Six hours can provide plenty of time for a complete micro wedding experience, especially when your ceremony, photography and reception all take place at the same venue.

At N1 Estate, couples are able to move naturally from the ceremony into family photographs, cocktail hour, portraits, speeches, dinner, cake cutting, first dance and the final celebration without losing time travelling between separate locations.

Within six hours, couples can comfortably include:

  • Wedding ceremony

  • Family photographs

  • Couple portraits

  • Cocktail hour

  • Champagne toast

  • Speeches

  • Dinner

  • Wedding cake

  • First dance

  • Dancing and celebration

The key is creating a timeline that focuses on the moments that matter most to you rather than trying to include every possible wedding tradition.

For couples who would like a little more breathing room, a longer cocktail hour, additional photography time or more time to celebrate after dinner, additional venue hours can also be added to the Micro Wedding Package.

Do You Need a First Look?

No. A first look is completely optional. If you want the traditional moment of seeing each other for the first time as you walk down the aisle, you can take your couple portraits after the ceremony. If you would rather spend more of cocktail hour with your guests, completing some of your portraits before the ceremony can free up time later.

Neither option is better. It simply depends on how you want your wedding day to feel.

Should Speeches Happen Before or During Dinner?

Either approach can work. In this sample timeline, speeches happen before dinner because everyone is already seated and catering service can begin immediately afterward.

Other couples may prefer to divide speeches between courses or save one or two for after dinner.

If you are having a buffet-style meal, completing speeches before dinner can create a particularly clean transition into food service. The most important thing is coordinating your timeline with your caterer so speeches do not interfere with food being served at its best.

What If We Don't Want Dancing?

Then don't include it. Your micro wedding timeline should reflect the type of wedding you actually want.

Instead of spending the final hour dancing, couples could use that time for:

  • Sunset portraits

  • Cocktails

  • Lawn games

  • Dessert

  • A Flower Bar

  • An extended dinner

  • Relaxed conversation in the lounge area

There is no requirement that your wedding end with a packed dance floor.

Can We Change the Order of the Timeline?

Absolutely. This is a sample Naramata Bench micro wedding timeline, not a set of rules.

Your schedule may change depending on:

  • Ceremony length

  • Catering style

  • Number of speeches

  • Photography priorities

  • First look

  • Cultural traditions

  • Family traditions

  • Whether dancing is important to you

One of the greatest advantages of having a smaller wedding is flexibility. With fewer people and fewer moving parts, your wedding timeline can be designed around the moments that matter most to you.

Planning a Naramata Bench Micro Wedding at N1 Estate

N1 Estate Family Farm is an intimate outdoor wedding venue located along scenic Naramata Road in Penticton, BC, on the Naramata Bench. Our Micro Wedding Package includes six hours of private venue access and is designed for intimate celebrations of up to 28 attendees, including the couple.

Your ceremony, cocktail hour, wedding photography and reception all take place on the same private property, surrounded by cherry and apple orchards, neighbouring vineyards and panoramic Okanagan Lake views. This makes a six-hour wedding timeline particularly practical because you are not spending part of your wedding day travelling between separate ceremony, photography and reception locations.

Wedding planning and day-of coordination are also included, allowing your final schedule to be created around your ceremony, caterer, photography priorities, sunset time and the type of reception you want to have. The timeline above is a practical starting point for couples planning a Naramata Bench micro wedding, but your celebration does not need to follow it minute by minute.

A good micro wedding timeline should provide enough structure to keep the day flowing smoothly while leaving enough space for you to actually experience it.
