How Much Does a Micro Wedding Cost in the Okanagan? | N1 Estate
If you are considering a micro wedding in the Okanagan, one of your first questions is probably: how much should we actually budget?
The answer depends on the type of celebration you want. A relaxed dinner with your closest family and friends will have a very different budget from a highly customized wedding with premium florals, a multi-course plated dinner and luxury upgrades.
One of the advantages of a micro wedding is that a smaller guest list allows you to be more intentional about where you spend your money. Here is a realistic look at the main expenses to consider when planning an intimate Okanagan wedding.
How Much Should You Budget for an Okanagan Micro Wedding?
There is no single price that applies to every micro wedding. Your biggest expenses will typically include the venue, food and beverages, attire and transportation. At N1 Estate Family Farm in Penticton, our all inclusive Micro-Wedding Package is $11,995 + GST and includes most of the elements couples would otherwise need to source separately.
The package includes six hours of private venue access, a licensed officiant and personalized ceremony, wedding planning and day-of coordination, professional photography, ceremony and reception setup, tables and chairs, tableware and glassware, décor, faux florals, a fresh seasonal bridal bouquet, personalized wedding cake, champagne tower setup, bar setup, lounge seating, lawn games, music coordination and more.
Because so much is already included, couples can build the remainder of their budget around a much smaller number of additional expenses.
Venue & Wedding Package: $11,995 + GST
For couples choosing N1 Estate, the largest portion of the wedding budget is the $11,995 + GST Micro-Wedding Package.
When comparing wedding venues, look carefully at what is actually included in the price. A lower venue rental fee may initially look more affordable, but costs can quickly increase when you separately add chairs, tables, linens, tableware, décor, photography, an officiant, florals, a wedding planner, day-of coordinator, cake and rentals.
Catering: Budget Approximately $120–$150 Per Person
Food is one of the biggest variables when planning a micro wedding in the Okanagan.
A casual pizza dinner with appetizers may cost considerably less than a family-style catered dinner. A buffet will also offer a different price point than an elaborate multi-course plated meal, while grazing tables and additional food stations can also increase the total.
For initial planning, we recommend allowing approximately $120–$150 per person for catering, while understanding that your final cost may be lower or higher depending on your menu, service style and any additional food stations or enhancements you choose.
For a 28-person micro wedding, that means budgeting approximately:
28 guests × $120–$150 = $3,360–$4,200
At N1 Estate, catering is selected from our trusted local catering partners, allowing couples to choose a menu and dining experience that suits their preferences and budget.
Alcohol & Special Event Permit: Approximately $565–$765
Alcohol is completely optional. If you choose to serve alcohol at your wedding, a private Special Event Permit in British Columbia currently costs $25 per day. You will also require a Serve It Right Certification which currently costs $40.
The cost of alcohol itself depends on what you choose to serve. Wine and beer with a champagne toast will have a very different budget from premium spirits, cocktails and multiple wine selections.
Based on what we have seen at intimate weddings of approximately 28 people, $500–$700 can be a reasonable starting alcohol budget when couples purchase their own alcohol.
Wedding Transportation: Approximately $600–$1,500+
Parking at intimate outdoor venues can be limited, making guest transportation another expense worth considering.
Okanagan wedding shuttle pricing varies depending on the vehicle size, number of trips, pickup locations and length of service. Current local options range from a few hundred dollars for basic event transportation to $1,500 or more for several hours of dedicated shuttle service.
For a small wedding, consider budgeting approximately $600–$1,500+ if you want to provide transportation.
This is also an area where you may be able to save. For a 20-28 person wedding, guests staying together or near one another may choose to share taxis instead of hiring a dedicated shuttle.
Wedding Dress & Attire: Whatever Feels Right to You
This may be the hardest wedding expense to estimate - and that is perfectly okay.
We have welcomed stunning brides wearing $100 online wedding dresses, brides wearing gowns worth several thousand dollars, brides who rented their dresses and brides who wore meaningful gowns passed down through their families.
There is no correct amount to spend on a wedding dress.
The same applies to suits, shoes, jewellery and accessories. Set a budget that feels comfortable to you rather than feeling pressured to spend a certain amount simply because it is a wedding. And remember, a beautiful wedding is not determined by the price tag on your dress.
Wedding Favours: Optional — Around $20 Per Guest
Wedding favours are another completely optional expense. They can be as simple as a small personalized keepsake or as elaborate as locally sourced gifts for every guest. If favours are important to you, approximately $20 per guest gives you a useful starting budget.
For 26 guests:
26 × $20 = $520
But there is absolutely nothing wrong with spending considerably less or skipping traditional wedding favours altogether.
Accommodation for a Destination Micro Wedding
If you are travelling to Penticton for your wedding, remember to include accommodation in your budget.
The cost will depend on how long you stay and whether you choose a hotel, resort, vacation rental or private property.
Some couples book accommodations just for themselves, while others rent a larger property and turn their Okanagan micro wedding into a weekend getaway with their closest family and friends.

Optional Wedding Upgrades

Choose upgrades because they genuinely add something meaningful to your wedding experience - not because you feel like you are supposed to have them.
What Could a 28-Person Okanagan Micro Wedding Cost?
Using N1 Estate as an example, a simple starting budget might look something like this:

Based on these estimates, a well-rounded 28-person Okanagan micro wedding could cost approximately $17,040 before attire, accommodation, optional enhancements and applicable taxes.
BUT it can absolutely cost less - skip alcohol, use taxis instead of a private shuttle, choose simpler catering and forego favours, and your additional expenses beyond the wedding package can be significantly reduced.
Likewise, couples who choose premium catering, elaborate florals, luxury accommodations and multiple enhancements can spend considerably more.

Is a Micro Wedding Actually More Affordable?
It usually is, but affordability is not the only reason couples choose a micro wedding. A smaller guest list gives you greater control over your budget and allows you to prioritize the things that matter most to you.
Instead of paying for 100 guests, you may choose to have an incredible meal with 20 people, invest in outstanding catering menu, spend a weekend together in the Okanagan or simply keep the money for something else entirely.
For many couples, the biggest benefit is not necessarily spending the least amount possible. It is knowing where their money is going and creating a wedding that feels intentional.
